Red Clover Day

Join us as we dig deep for infrastructure! There is a lot of work that goes into the farm infrastructure, and we’d love for you to join us for a work day.

All levels of experience and skill are welcome! There are lots of easy tasks that need doing by someone who cares. Lots of tasks that go 10x easier with 2 people than they do with me out there solo. Honestly, you can come out and do nothing but hang out and enjoy the fresh air.

Here are some of the things we might be doing:

  • Digging holes in the dirt.

  • Construction with pallets and lumber.

  • Weeding crops, or putting some compost on them.

  • Transplanting tomatoes into the field.

  • Planting seeds into the field.

Have you ever wondered what goes into organic weed control? Would you like to learn how I transplant my heat loving plants into the field? Are you curious about basic construction, or enjoy it as a hobby? Come learn in an informal, hands on environment.

The farm is kid friendly. And even baby friendly to an extent. I don’t use chemicals or large equipment. But there are thorny plants, stinging insects and all the dangers inherent in the best outdoor experiences. Come, and bring your children, but bring work and play clothing and sprays to keep yourself comfortable. The weather is usually mild in June. To an extent, I’ll work in any weather. Practically though, heavy rain will cancel the work day.

I expect pandemic rules to still be a part of our lives in June. Please bring masks, hand sanitizer and your own bowls/spoons for lunch.

Join us as we get ready for the heat of summer! There is a lot of work that goes into getting all our favorite heat lovers tucked into their beds, and we’d love for you to join us for a work day.

  • Planting tomatoes! I plant over 500 tomatoes, and they all need tucking into the soil, with straw mulch and supports.

  • Planting peppers! A couple hundred of these lovelies need tucking into the ground with straw mulch.

  • Squash! Transplanting in little squash vine babies. This crop also uses a cover crop, we will seed the white clover that covers the paths and runways.

Have you ever wondered how I plant so many tomatoes? Would you like to help plant our beautiful pumpkin friends? Are you curious about cover crops with vegetables? Come learn in an informal, hands on environment.

The farm is kid friendly. And even baby friendly to an extent. I don’t use chemicals or large equipment. But there are thorny plants, stinging insects and all the dangers inherent in the best outdoor experiences. Come, and bring your children, but bring work and play clothing and sprays to keep yourself comfortable. The weather can be unpredictable in May. To an extent, I’ll work in any weather. Practically though, heavy rain will cancel the work day.

Yoga at the Farm and Ledges Hikes

Come and join us at the farm, as we greet spring!

We will start at the farm plot up near Ogden, I will offer a brief tour for those that want to see the farm Becky and I are building. We will stretch and warm up, hydrate and hug. Kids can run around the farm with the farm dog and cats.

892 200th st, Ogden, IA, 50212

Carpooling to Ledges would work well I think, and allow opportunities for adults to stay behind at the farm for a meditation session or nature healing.

We will plan for sunny weather and reschedule if it looks to be stormy.

If water levels are too high at Ledges for hiking access, we can hike Don Williams instead.
